Ethnic Celebration

The 28th annual Valley Greek Festival is scheduled this weekend in Northridge. Visitors will be able to enjoy Greek culture, live Greek music and Greek folk-dancing. Taste a variety of Greek foods, including souvlaki, moussaka, spanakopita and saganaki. Also, there will be cooking demonstrations and a children’s amusement area.

Horse Show

The $35,000 Lexus of Glendale Memorial Day Classic Grand Prix on Monday will cap a weekend of equestrian activity in Burbank. Participants have the opportunity to earn points toward the American Grandprix Assn. Horse and Rider of the Year titles. Other events include the $5,000 Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper Classic and the W.C.E. Horsemanship Challenge.

Musical Theater

The Music Theater of Southern California presents “Annie,” based on Harold Gray’s Depression-era comic strip “Little Orphan Annie,” opening Friday in Glendale. The show, with music and lyrics by Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, won three Tony awards when it opened on Broadway in 1977. It was made into a feature film in 1982, directed by John Huston and starring Albert Finney and Carol Burnett.

Swing Tribute

Horace Heidt Jr. will lead a musical tribute to his father, the legendary bandleader and radio star of the 1930s, Saturday in Sherman Oaks. The dinner-dance program will feature live swing music performed by the Horace Heidt Orchestra, plus performances by the Coasters, Dick Van Patten, Barbara McNair and others.
