Driver Checkpoint Yields Many Citations
A sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint conducted in Oxnard this week netted one arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence while dozens of other drivers were cited for various traffic and license violations.
The Oxnard Police Department conducted the checkpoint Thursday along Rose Avenue. Of more than 1,100 vehicles screened, two drivers were stopped for drinking and one was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The vehicles of 18 motorists who were either impaired or who had license violations were towed. Another 18 drivers were cited for license violations. Twenty-two citations were issued for traffic violations and two people were arrested on warrants.
The checkpoint ran from 7 p.m. until midnight and was the fifth conducted by Oxnard police this year. It was the 89th roadside sobriety checkpoint since the department began the program in 1994.
