The San Francisco Giants optioned right-hander Ryan Jensen to triple-A Fresno on Saturday and recalled right-hander Ryan Vogelsong.

The move came shortly after Jensen gave up four runs in four innings of relief against the Colorado Rockies.

Jensen, who went 3-0 with a 1.62 earned-run average at Fresno this season, had a 5.73 earned-run average in three appearances with the Giants after making his major league debut May 19 against Atlanta.

Vogelsong is 3-3 with a 2.95 ERA in nine starts for Fresno. He pitched six scoreless innings in four appearances for the Giants late last season in his first major league call-up.

Giant first baseman J.T. Snow probably won’t play again until Tuesday after a home-plate collision with Colorado catcher Ben Petrick left Snow with a bruised chest.

Snow, who’s hitting .220, isn’t seriously hurt, but he said he likely won’t return until after Arizona’s Randy Johnson pitches against the Giants on Monday.

The Rockies put right-hander John Thomson was put on the 15-day disabled list because of weakness in his shoulder.

Thomson has a 5.68 ERA and has lost all three of his starts.

The Rockies also activated left-hander Brian Bohanon, who had been on the disabled list since May 8 because of an inflamed left elbow. Bohanon, 1-4 with a 9.73 ERA, will start against the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Philadelphia Phillie infielder David Newhan, who played at Pepperdine, is expected to sit out the rest of the season because of surgery for a torn labrum and fractured cartilage in his right shoulder.

While trade rumors regarding Chicago White Sox pitcher David Wells persist, New York Met General Manager Steve Phillips remains mum.

“We’re just looking at every player that might be available that could help our team,” Phillips said.

”. . .The only players available now are players who are not performing well or aren’t getting an opportunity to perform.”
