Two bicyclists were shot in a robbery attempt Monday night, leaving one dead and the other wounded, authorities said.
Juan Manuel Ruiz Aquino, 23, and his brother Aurelio Jimenez, 27, both of Santa Ana, were riding their bicycles home about 10 p.m. when a man tried to rob them at 4th and Townsend streets, police said.
When the brothers fled, the suspect fired several times, said Sgt. Steve Serrano of the Santa Ana Police Department.
Aquino was transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he died of his wounds, Serrano said. Jimenez was hospitalized in good condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
