Crystal Cove’s Future Is Subject of Hearing
The state Department of Parks and Recreation will hold a public workshop tonight on the future of the historic district at Crystal Cove State Park.
The historic district--listed on the National Register of Historic Places because it is the last intact example of a 1920s-era Southern California beach colony--was nearly turned into a $35-million resort.
The purpose of tonight’s workshop is to evaluate options for the 46 ramshackle cottages on the state beach. The proposals under consideration are state parks operations; overnight cottage rentals; a cultural, arts, research and environmental center; and a beach store and snack bar.
Tonight, parks officials want to learn how people feel about those options, how many cottages should be dedicated to each proposal, where these amenities should be and when they should be developed..
The workshop will be held at 7 p.m. at Lincoln Elementary School, 3101 Pacific View Drive.
