Oklahoma Bounces Back, 58-0

Any disappointment Oklahoma felt after its first loss in two seasons didn’t carry over too long Saturday against Tulsa.

The third-ranked Sooners took a while to find the end zone, then spent a lot of the day there in a 58-0 nonconference victory Saturday in Norman, Okla.

Quentin Griffin scored four touchdowns, Nate Hybl threw for 347 yards in his return to the starting lineup and Oklahoma gained 541 yards one week after a loss to Nebraska that ended the Sooners’ 20-game winning streak.

The loss dropped Oklahoma from first to second in the bowl championship series ratings, which determine the teams that will play for the national title.

The Sooners (8-1) had only three points after the first quarter and didn’t score a touchdown until midway through the second. That started a run in which they scored touchdowns on five straight possessions--four by Griffin.

Tulsa (1-7) had to punt 12 times, often setting Oklahoma up with good field position. Brandon Jones did his part to help the Sooners in that regard, returning seven punts for 150 yards--including returns of 56 and 28 yards.
