A medical examiner has tentatively concluded that a 36-year-old man who was found dead with his wife and children in their San Francisco home killed his family, then shot himself.

The medical examiner, after conducting autopsies, said Anthony Shami shot his wife, Anna, 37, and his daughter, Jamilah, 9. The circumstances of the death of his 15-year-old daughter, Jasmin, have not been determined.

Lt. Judie Pursell said police haven’t nailed down firm reasons he killed his family and himself.

“It’s possible we’ll never know the full truth,” she said.

Police had been investigating the possibility that someone else had killed the family.

Members of Anna Shami’s family told police they had confronted Anthony Shami the night before the killings about abusing his family. They told him they were going to report the abuse to the police.

But Anthony Shami’s family said he had no history of domestic violence.

The Shamis died early Sept. 8. They were found the following day, all in one room of their house in the St. Mary’s Park neighborhood of Bernal Heights.
