Rangers Make Quick Work of Islanders

Theo Fleury, Brian Leetch and Sandy McCarthy scored in a 65-second span in the first period as the New York Rangers ended the New York Islanders’ Eastern Conference unbeaten streak with a 6-2 victory Thursday night at Uniondale, N.Y.

Radek Dvorak, Mark Messier and Eric Lindros also scored for the Rangers.

The Islanders (11-2-1-1) were 10-0 against conference foes and undefeated against the East at home.

Minnesota 5, Boston 3--Dwayne Roloson made 53 saves and Andrew Brunette had two goals and two assists to lead the Wild at Boston. The Bruins outshot Minnesota, 56-16.

Carolina 3, Washington 2--Jeff O’Neill scored the go-ahead goal with 5:20 to play as the Hurricanes rallied from a two-goal, third-period deficit to defeat the Capitals at Washington.

Montreal 3, Nashville 1--Brian Savage and Oleg Petrov assisted on each other’s first-period goals to lead the Canadiens at Montreal.

Philadelphia 2, Tampa Bay 1--Tomas Divisek scored his first NHL goal and Pavel Kubina added another to lead the Flyers at Tampa, Fla.

Buffalo 8, Atlanta 0--Martin Biron made 16 saves at Buffalo, N.Y., for his first shutout as the Sabres’ top goalie. Buffalo scored eight goals for the first time since Jan. 1, 2000.

St. Louis 3, Vancouver 1--Pavol Demitra scored twice and Al MacInnis had a goal and an assist to lead the Blues at St. Louis.

Ottawa 1, Colorado 0--Patrick Lalime made 21 saves for his second consecutive shutout as the Senators won at Ottawa.
