All-pro running back Edgerrin James’ sprained left knee will cause him to miss his second consecutive game when the Indianapolis Colts play the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

James did not practice this week, although it was hoped that he would be back on the field Friday. He wasn’t.

“He’s not made a lot of progress lately,” Coach Jim Mora said. “He’s just not ready to play. We’ve just got to keep treating him.”

Mora downgraded the two-time NFL rushing champion’s status for the game from questionable to doubtful. James was not available for comment.

James was hurt in the final moments of the Colts’ 35-28 win over Kansas City on Oct. 25, and missed last Sunday’s 30-14 win at Buffalo--sitting out a game for the first time in his three seasons.

Buffalo Bills’ rookie running back Travis Henry was sentenced to 100 hours of community service for having a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old girl.

Henry, who pleaded guilty last month to the misdemeanor charge of attempted sexual misconduct, is eligible to have his record cleared once he has completed his service.

He has been assigned to work with Buffalo’s St. Augustine Community Service Corporation, where his duties will mostly involve counseling youth.

He could still face punishment from the NFL for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

The Oakland Raiders signed former all-pro cornerback James Hasty and put backup quarterback Bobby Hoying on injured reserve.

Hasty, a 13-year veteran, last played with the Kansas City Chiefs, starting 15 games last season. Since then he has been the defensive coordinator and secondary coach at Bellevue High in Washington.

The signing raises questions about the severity of cornerback Charles Woodson’s turf toe. The former Heisman Trophy winner was listed as questionable for Sunday night when the Raiders play the Seattle Seahawks on the artificial surface at Husky Stadium.

With Chris Weinke still ailing, the Carolina Panthers said they will make a game-time decision as to who will start at quarterback against the St. Louis Rams.

Weinke missed his third consecutive practice because of a sore throwing shoulder and it’s rare when a player, especially a rookie, can miss that much preparation time and still play on Sunday.

That leaves Matt Lytle as the likely starter and newly acquired Jim Harbaugh as the backup.

The Cleveland Browns put defensive end Keith McKenzie on injured reserve and activated linebacker Lenoy Jones.

McKenzie broke his left ankle during last weekend’s overtime loss in Chicago, had surgery Wednesday and will be out for the season. He will wear a cast for three months and won’t be able to run for four months.

Jones has been sidelined since the preseason. He probably will assume some of linebacker Brant Boyer’s roles on special teams.
