Mike Austin a Big Hitter?
Regarding the article on Mike Austin, I find it very difficult to believe [that he made] a 515-yard drive (“The Man Who Broke the Code,” by Philip Reed, Oct. 7). Given the equipment and balls used 27 years ago, and what the current big hitters and long drivers are doing, I would equate his drive with a three-minute mile. You have to take some of the stories about him with a grain of salt.

Austin’s 515-yard drive in 1974 has been verified by officials with the “Guinness Book of World Records.”
