Ostertag, Malone Lead Jazz

Karl Malone scored a season-high 29 points, and Greg Ostertag had 14 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocked shots to lead the Utah Jazz over the Orlando Magic, 105-98, Monday night at Salt Lake City.

Malone and Ostertag helped Utah (3-5) avoid its worst start since the 1982-83 season--the last time the Jazz missed the playoffs.

Darrell Armstrong had 18 points and Tracy McGrady scored 17 for the Magic, who have lost four of their last five.

With John Stockton and Malone on the bench, Andrei Kirilenko and Ostertag combined for seven points and a pair of blocks and steals in a 13-4 run that put Utah ahead, 86-73, with 6:17 to play.

Golden State 86, Memphis 79--Danny Fortson scored 20 points and had 22 rebounds as the Warriors held on for another road victory at Memphis.

Reserve Chris Mills scored 17 and Bob Sura added 12 for the Warriors, who won their third road game in a row. Last season, Golden State didn’t win its third road game until Dec. 30 against the Grizzlies in Vancouver.

Lorenzen Wright had 19 points and 15 rebounds, Pau Gasol added 16 points and Jason Williams scored 13 for the Grizzlies, seeking their first win as an NBA franchise operating in Memphis.
