Lindros Gets Rangers Started Against Flyers

Eric Lindros made up for some early jitters in his first game against his former Philadelphia Flyer teammates, scoring the New York Rangers’ first goal in a 4-2 victory on Wednesday night at New York.

Theo Fleury scored the go-ahead goal at 8:20 of the third period, converting a perfect back pass from Mike York, and Petr Nedved made it 4-2 with 2:14 to play.

Mike Richter made 40 saves to help the Rangers extend their winning streak to six games and move into a tie with the New York Islanders for first place in the Eastern Conference.

Jan Hlavac and Kim Johnsson, two of the three players traded to Philadelphia for Lindros, each had a point.

New York Islanders 3, Pittsburgh 3--Alexei Kovalev scored three goals in 51/2 minutes of the third period for his second hat trick in as many nights and the Penguins rallied for a tie at Pittsburgh.

Kovalev rallied the Penguins from deficits of 2-0 and 3-1.

He has six goals in two games after missing 13 because of knee surgery.

Brad Isbister scored two goals for the Islanders. Mariusz Czerkawski had the other New York goal.

Defenseman Hans Jonsson assisted on all of Kovalev’s goals.

Toronto 3, Florida 2--Tomas Kaberle’s power-play goal with 7:47 to play was the difference at Sunrise, Fla.

Toronto’s Corey Schwab, making his second start this season, stopped 26 shots, including 15 in the third period.

Florida’s Roberto Luongo faced 34 shots, marking the eighth time in nine games he has seen more than 30.

Colorado 1, Minnesota 0--Patrick Roy stopped 26 shots at Denver in becoming the first goalie to win 200 games with two teams, and the Avalanche ended a six-game winless streak.

Roy was 289-175-66 with Montreal and is 200-110-45 with Colorado.

He went eight starts without a victory before getting his 54th career shutout and second this season.

Chris Drury scored in the first period, leading Colorado to its first victory since Oct. 28.

Dwayne Roloson made 29 saves in losing for the first time in three starts.
