Owners to Meet Soon on Contraction
Major league owners, forging ahead with contraction plans despite opposition by the players’ union and mounting legal problems, are tentatively planning to meet again in Chicago or Milwaukee either the last week of this month or early to mid-December, Commissioner Bud Selig confirmed Wednesday.
Selig would not disclose the purpose of the meeting, but a major league executive said that he expected the status of contraction to be reviewed at that time and that it could be determined which two teams will be eliminated.
Speculation has centered on the Minnesota Twins and Montreal Expos.
