Treatment Ordered for Unruly Flier

An unruly, knife-wielding passenger who disrupted an American Airlines flight from Honolulu to Dallas in December was temporarily placed in a psychiatric treatment center Monday.

U.S. District Judge Lourdes Baird set another hearing for Feb. 11 to reevaluate whether Paul Gordon Cochran, 47, poses a danger to the community, according to a spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office in Los Angeles.

During the flight, the pilot was forced to divert the plane to Los Angeles, where six airport security officers boarded the aircraft and arrested Cochran. None of the 190 passengers and crew of 12 were hurt.

In July, Cochran, a Texas resident, was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
