Deadmarsh Broke Hand Off the Ice

Share

Adam Deadmarsh, whose litany of injuries almost defies belief, revealed Tuesday that he wasn’t even on the ice Nov. 1 when he suffered a broken bone in his right hand during a 3-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.

As he lifted a water bottle to his lips while seated on the bench, Deadmarsh said, an errant puck struck his hand.

“That’s kind of the way our season’s gone,” Coach Andy Murray said.

Deadmarsh sat out Tuesday night’s game, his fourth injury-related scratch this season and second in a row, because of an abdominal strain suffered in a fight with Darren McCarty in Saturday night’s 4-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.

No wonder Murray was so upset after Saturday’s game at Detroit, calling the Kings’ effort “an insult to every parent who took their kid to play hockey at 5:30 in the morning” and wondering aloud how club owner Philip Anschutz could find the stomach to write checks to his players.

The Kings set a franchise record for futility with their 10 shots on goal against the Red Wings, breaking the previous low of 12 in a 2-2 tie against the Florida Panthers on Oct. 28, 1997.

Ziggy Palffy’s assist on a first-period power-play goal by Bryan Smolinski on Tuesday night was the 500th point of his career.
