Rangers End Roy’s Streak

The New York Rangers emphatically ended Patrick Roy’s shutout streak with a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night at New York.
New York scored three first-period goals, and Roy was pulled after a second-period goal by Zdeno Ciger, the Rangers’ fifth.
Roy’s shutout streak ended at three-plus games, a total of 192 minutes 39 seconds.
Mikael Samuelsson ended the streak 8:46 into the game.
Philadelphia 3, New Jersey 3--Bobby Holik’s second goal, with 3:22 left in regulation, gave New Jersey a tie at Philadelphia.
John LeClair had two goals for Philadelphia.
Ottawa 3, Vancouver 0--Patrick Lalime stopped 26 shots, and Daniel Alfredsson had a goal and an assist at Ottawa.
Montreal 3, Boston 2--Martin Rucinsky and Andreas Dackell scored late in the third period to lift the Canadiens at Montreal.
Boston took a 2-0 lead on first-period goals by P.J. Axelsson and Brian Rolston.
Detroit 6, Nashville 3--Brendan Shanahan scored three goals and Kris Draper had two for the Red Wings at Detroit.
It Shanahan’s 15th hat trick.
Edmonton 2, St. Louis 0--Eric Brewer scored on a power play in the second period, and Tommy Salo stopped 24 shots at Edmonton, Canada.
Phoenix 2, Minnesota 1--Claude Lemieux scored with 23.9 seconds left in overtime at Phoenix.
Marian Gaborik scored to force overtime after Brad May of Phoenix had a second-period goal.
The Wild came in with the NHL’s best power-play unit, converting 21 of 93 chances (.226), but went 0 for 3 against the Coyotes.

Center Jason Wiemer of the Florida Panthers was suspended for seven games by the league for high-sticking Darcy Tucker of the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday and leaving him with a concussion.
Wiemer will forfeit about $41,000 in salary.
