Audubon Society Seeks to Preserve Wetlands

Share

The National Audubon Society is working to preserve about 100,000 acres of wetlands in the Bay Area, hoping to turn the area into the Everglades of the West Coast. It wants to invest $2 billion for the first phase of a 20-year project.

The Packard Foundation gave the Audubon Society $800,000 in seed money for the work.

But though some environmentalists are happy to have such a heavyweight on their side, others fear the group will take credit for about 40 years’ worth of fighting to preserve the area.
