Three men were arrested after attempting to steal $1.75 million worth of computer components early Saturday from a manufacturing company in Rancho Santa Margarita, Orange County sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies were still investigating the foiled theft late Saturday and believe at least two more suspects were involved. The names of the three men in custody were not made public by late Saturday. All three are believed to be from the Los Angeles area, Sheriff’s Lt. Larry Abbott said.

The intruders tripped a burglar alarm about 2:45 a.m. as they carried equipment from the company, Viking Components, in the 30200 block of Avenida de las Banderas, to a van parked outside, Abbott said. “When our deputy arrived, he saw five guys splitting from the area,” Abbott said.

Police dogs soon found three men hiding in nearby bushes, Abbott said. The other two suspects got away.

“Based on what they did and what they had, it appears they were very sophisticated,” Abbott said. “They just made a mistake this time.”
