One of the most influential figures in the neo-Expressionist Japanese butoh idiom, 56-year-old Min Tanaka has appeared locally only twice, which makes his performance with his new company, Tokason, newsworthy. And the U.S. premiere of his “Caprice: Guests From the Dark” gains added stature from the creative input of Los Angeles-based performance artist and Zen master Hirokazu Kosaka. Together they have created a movement ritual based on Francisco de Goya’s monumental series of etchings, “Los Caprichos,” with the event scheduled to end outdoors on the theater plaza under a full moon, in a central pool amid Kosaka’s installation of rice stalks.

Claire Denis’ contemporary horror story “Trouble Every Day” follows an American couple, played by Vincent Gallo and Tricia Vessey, honeymooning in Paris. The husband, Shane, seeks treatment from a self-exiled doctor whose radical study of the libido may be the key to Shane’s release from a self-destructive cerebral impairment that affects his sexual appetite. Beatrice Dalle co-stars as the doctor’s wife, who suffers from the same illness.

“Trouble Every Day,” not rated by the MPAA, opens Friday for one week exclusively at the Sunset 5, West Hollywood.
