From Times Staff Reports

An eastbound lane of La Palma Avenue was closed for several hours Monday after workers installing leak sensors at an abandoned gas station accidentally punctured a natural gas line.

“We’re just trying to keep traffic away from the area,” said police Sgt. Eric Nunez.

The accident occurred about 3:30 p.m. in the 5900 block of La Palma Avenue when workers were digging to install sensors to detect leaks in underground gas tanks used by the station.

One lane from Valley View to Rose was closed while a gas company crew capped the leak, he said.
