Unattended Cigarette Blamed in Condo Fire
A burning cigarette sparked a fire that destroyed an Oak Park condominium, the Ventura County Fire Department reported Tuesday.
The fire broke out in the 900 block of Quarter Horse Lane about 11:55 p.m. Monday, said county fire spokeswoman Sandi Wells. No one was injured, but damage to the building and its contents was estimated at $175,000.
Homeowner Stephen Sale and his wife were out of town, but their daughter, son-in-law and infant grandson were staying at the condo, Wells said.
A cigarette left unattended in the garage apparently ignited some papers and rags, Wells said.
