Deadline Extended for Cal-Grant Student Aid
Community college students who appeared to have lost their shot at free tuition under the state’s troubled Cal Grant program now have another chance, student aid officials announced Wednesday.
The California Student Aid Commission said it has reopened the competition for 750 remaining grants, giving community colleges until Monday to file required grade reports for eligible students.
The action followed an Assembly report that thousands of needy students missed a chance to compete for the grants because their schools failed to submit their grades by the original Sept. 2 deadline. Grade reports were required for the 11,250 grants that the program set aside for community college students
The commission said the extension would ensure that all eligible students would now be considered.
