The twice-postponed Emmy Awards will be held Nov. 4 at the Shubert Theater in Century City, after 10 days of uncertainty about the future of the annual television awards show.

CBS and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which organizes the awards, will detail plans for the rescheduled telecast today.

Despite mounting skepticism about whether the awards should be held at all this year after two separate cancellations following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, both CBS, a unit of Viacom Inc., and the academy haven’t wavered publicly from their desire to put on some kind of TV-worthy presentation.

Originally scheduled for Sept. 16 at the Shrine Auditorium, the Emmys were postponed the day of the terrorist attacks on New York and the Pentagon. A second attempt to stage a more sober telecast Oct. 7 was called off hours before the event, after U.S. and British forces began bombing raids on Afghanistan.

The new date means the Emmys will run on the first Sunday of the November ratings sweeps, a period in which networks schedule high-profile programs seeking to boost viewership.
