From Times Wire Reports

National Guard troops have stepped into their new security role at Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport but only for two weeks.

The eight soldiers will leave when United Express--the airport’s only commercial airline--ends service in two weeks, said interim airport manager Dave Knight.

The airport also will release the private security guards it contracted after Sept. 11 since Federal Aviation Administration security rules for airports with commercial flights will no longer apply locally, Knight said.

For the next two weeks, soldiers will be posted at the terminal whenever passengers board one of the carrier’s six daily flights to San Francisco and Los Angeles.
