Tenkrat Is Given a Seat to Watch and Learn

Petr Tenkrat, one of the young players the Mighty Ducks were hoping would mature this season, had a good view for the game against Phoenix on Wednesday. It was just a little too far away from the action to suit him.

Tenkrat, the Ducks’ third-line right wing, was a healthy scratch, sidelined to observe, and hopefully, according to Coach Bryan Murray, learn.

“Petr needs to watch a game,” Murray said. “He has to do more when he has chances with the puck and do more on the defensive side. He’s a young player who hasn’t played a lot of games in the league. To sit and watch a game can be good for him.”

Tenkrat wasn’t as sure about the benefits when asked if it was good for him to observe a game.

“I don’t think so,” Tenkrat said. “I usually played a lot of minutes. When I was in the Czech League and Finnish League, I played a lot. It’s terrible to watch and can’t play.”

Tenkrat has no points this season.

“The other day, he had three times where he came in wide,” Murray said. “But instead of taking the puck to the net, he went behind the net. He has to go to the net and either make the defensive man pull him down or get off a shot so that the goalie pays attention to him.”

Oleg Tverdovsky played in his 300th consecutive game Wednesday, the second longest active streak in the NHL. Chicago’s Tony Amonte has played in 337 consecutive games.
