From Times Staff Reports

A California Federal Bank branch in Ventura was robbed this week by a man who authorities say is responsible for four other holdups in Ventura and one in Oxnard.

The robber walked into the branch at Telephone Road and Victoria Avenue about 12:30 p.m. Monday and, as he has in the other cases, gave a teller a note demanding money, said FBI Special Agent Brent Robbins.

After the teller complied, the man moved to another teller and asked for more money.

He walked out of the bank and then ran into a nearby field, where witnesses lost sight of him, Robbins said.

Officials are calling the man the “Both Hands Bandit,” because he holds the demand notes with both hands.

He is described as white, 5 feet 10, with a gray crew cut and wearing blue jeans and a tan, lightweight jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI’s Ventura office at 642-3995.
