400-Acre Fire Forces Evacuation and Alert
Firefighters were battling a 400-acre blaze that forced the evacuation of some residents, while others were put on alert, fire officials said Saturday.
The blaze started on private property and was threatening structures. But as the gusty winds calmed and the fire moved into the Shasta Trinity National Forest, the threat lessened, said Donna Harmon, district ranger for the Southfork Management Unit of the forest.
No injuries were reported, and it was not known how many people were ordered to leave their homes in the sparsely populated gulches, she said.
The fire is about 30 miles southwest of another blaze that sent more than half the town of Weaverville fleeing last week.
