Lead Men
ERIC CROUCH
Quarterback, Nebraska
Again, Crouch and the Cornhuskers looked fairly average, this time against Division I-A newcomer Troy State. A big game next week could propel Crouch’s campaign.
Season: 39 carries, 117 yards, 2 TD; 18 for 33, 260 yards.
Nextvs. Notre Dame, Sat.

KEN DORSEY
Quarterback, Miami
An impressive 33-7 victory at State College, Pa., against Penn State and a career best in passing for Dorsey make for a solid beginning not only for the Hurricanes, but for Heisman chances.
Season: 20 for 27, 344 yards, 3 TDs
Nextvs. Rutgers, Sat.
*
CHRIS SIMMS
Quarterback, Texas
In an easy 41-7 victory against New Mexico State, Simms didn’t do anything that puts him at the forefront. He had better pick it up next week or the Major Applewhite supporters will have his head.
Season: 17 for 33, 182 yards, 2 TDs.
Nextvs. North Carolina, Sat.

KEN SIMONTON
Running back, Oregon State
With Virginia Tech’s Lee Suggs possibly out for the season after suffering an injury Saturday against Connecticut, Simonton becomes the No. 1 Heisman contender at his position.
Last season: 266 carries, 1,474 yards, 18 TDs.
Nextat Fresno State, today.
