“Beverly Hills Collects,” an exhibition of contemporary artworks borrowed from local collections, inaugurates the Beverly Hills Municipal Gallery at City Hall. Paintings, drawings and sculptures by Magdelena Abakanowicz, Jean-Michel Basquiat, James Doolin and Alexis Smith, among many other artists, appear in thematic groups representing everyday life, popular culture, spiritual aspiration, artistic processes and commentary on the human condition. * “Beverly Hills Collects,” Beverly Hills Municipal Gallery, City Hall, 450 N. The first and hoped-to-be annual Ventura County Jewish Festival will hold sway at Cal State Channel Islands in Camarillo. Titled “A Celebration of Jewish Life,” the cultural fair will offer performances by the American Israeli contemporary dance troupe Keshet Chaim Dancer Ensemble, plus klezmer bands, kosher food, children’s entertainment, arts and crafts, vendor booths and Judaica merchandise.
