The Kings begin training camp Wednesday and they do not appear close to signing goalie Felix Potvin, who helped push them into the second round of the NHL playoffs.

Potvin, 30, is believed to be seeking a two-year deal that would pay him about $3.5 million a season.

The Kings made a counter proposal Tuesday. Jay Fee, who represents Potvin, said he and General Manager Dave Taylor were scheduled to talk through the weekend.

“We’re hoping to get it done by the start of training camp,” Taylor said.

“We’ve gone back and forth, but I can’t really say we’re close. I don’t expect it to get done today. I’d be happy if it did.”

Potvin was a reclamation project when he was acquired Feb. 15 in a trade with Vancouver.

He went 13-5-5 with a 1.96 goals-against average and .919 save percentage in 23 games with the Kings.
