Transformer Failure Cuts Power

Share

A transformer failure knocked out power citywide Tuesday in Burbank, jangling the nerves of numerous residents who feared that the outage was connected to last week’s terrorist attacks.

The loss of power, which occurred at 8:30 a.m. and caused traffic signals throughout the city to go dark, led to a number of minor collisions but no serious injuries, police said. Some production work at film and TV studios experienced slight delays.

The large, newly installed transformer connects the city’s power company to the state energy grid, said Ron Davis, general manager of Burbank Water and Power.

Power was restored within about three hours, officials said.
