Law School Funding

Re “UC Irvine Ties Law School Plan to Fund-Raising Push,” Sept. 24: As a UC Irvine alumnus, I am dismayed at Chancellor Ralph Ci-cerone’s and his supporters’ misguided search for glory.
While it is true that UCI does not have a law school, it also lacks schools in nursing, architecture, library science, journalism, etc. Why doesn’t the good chancellor push for a nursing school, when there is a critical shortage of nurses nationwide? Is this Newport Beach bunch suggesting that a nursing school is not as prestigious and that building one instead of a law school would somehow diminish UCI’s chance of becoming a top-tier university? Society, particularly Southern California’s, will be better served with more nurses than more lawyers.
