Shortstop Miguel Tejada hit for the cycle and the Oakland Athletics defeated the Seattle Mariners, 8-4, Saturday night at Seattle.

Tejada tripled in the first inning, singled in the third, doubled in the sixth and homered in the seventh.

Seatte's Ichiro Suzuki set the major league rookie record for hits in a season with 234.

Cleveland 9, Minnesota 8-Travis Fryman's two-out, two-run single in the ninth helped host Cleveland clinch a tie for first place in the AL Central.

Baltimore 7, New York 2-Jeff Conine hit a three-run double at Yankee Stadium.

Tampa Bay 5, Toronto 2-Nick Bierbrodt (2-4) gave up one run in six innings for Tampa Bay at St. Petersburg, Fla.

Detroit 7, Boston 2-Steve Sparks (13-9) pitched his major league-leading seventh complete game, at Detroit.

Chicago 10, Kansas City 2-Carlos Lee and Mark Johnson each hit two-run homers at Kansas City.
