NORTHRIDGE

Girl, 4, in Stolen SUV Safe After 7-Hour Ordeal

A 4-year-old girl was safe at home Saturday after being found in her mother’s abandoned SUV seven miles from where it was carjacked Friday, but police said they still did not have any suspects.

Komal Surani was found inside the sport utility vehicle about 10:30 p.m. Friday near Raymer Street and Bellaire Avenue in North Hollywood, said Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Loren Farell.

The youngster had been missing since 3:30 p.m. Friday, when someone attacked Muniran Surani, the girl’s mother, and took the black Lexus from a Northridge Costco parking lot. Surani had just placed her daughter in a car seat when she was attacked, police said.

Investigators searched the SUV for clues to the identity of the carjacker but have no strong leads, police said Saturday.

NORWALK

Man Critically Wounded as Deputies Return Fire

The Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation of a deputy-involved shooting Saturday in Norwalk that left an unidentified man in critical condition.

The man was shot during one of two exchanges of gunfire that began at 1:30 a.m. in the 11400 block of Alburtis Avenue and moved to the 15000 block of Corby Avenue.

Sgt. Ken Davidson, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman, said the man ignored the deputy and began fumbling with an object in the front of his waistband. The two exchanged gunfire. Then the man attempted to enter a nearby home as police backup arrived. As he shot at officers again, they returned fire, hitting him in the torso.
