Psychiatrist: U.S. Soldier Knowingly Drowned Kids
A U.S. soldier charged with murder in the drowning of her two young children suffered from mental illness but knew she was doing wrong, a forensic psychiatrist told a court-martial.
Dr. Park Dietz, a witness for the prosecution, said the primary motive of Spc. Lillie Morgan, 22, was to hurt her husband, who she thought was cheating on her.
“She knew she was drowning her children,” Dietz testified, disputing defense claims that Morgan was too disturbed to understand her actions.
Morgan, of Marksville, La., has admitted to drowning 3-year-old Joshua and 2-month-old Jazmin on Sept. 18 in her family’s apartment in a military housing complex in Hanau, near Frankfurt.
