A Bigger, Louder Kids’ Choice Awards

Share

Hollywood is full of enough award shows to keep the tuxedo-rental business hopping through much of the year.

Still, one of the hardest tickets in town to get skews toward less formal--or at least more pint-sized--attire: Nickelodeon’s annual Kids’ Choice Awards, which will be held and televised Saturday night from Santa Monica Airport’s Barker Hanger.

Kids’ Choice has become such a prized event because the children of entertainment industry executives and stars clamor to attend, leaving the cable network struggling to accommodate a huge roster of VIP guests in a venue that seats only 1,500. As it is, many industry executives are currently on a waiting list, and Nickelodeon reports that all of its media credentials have been exhausted.

Rosie O’Donnell is making her sixth appearance as host of the show, which is marking its 15th anniversary. The roster of presenters, not surprisingly, skews toward films, TV shows and musical acts with some presumed youth appeal, among them “Malcolm in the Middle’s” Frankie Muniz, wrestler-turned-actor the Rock and Spider-man.

But parents seeking tickets should be forewarned what to expect by the theme of this year’s show: “Bigger! Louder! Messier!”
