Big Spending in Bid to Succeed Condit
Democratic Assemblyman Dennis Cardoza has spent three times as much as his Republican opponent, state Sen. Dick Monteith, in the race for the 18th Congressional District seat held by Rep. Gary A. Condit.
According to campaign finance reports, Cardoza (D-Merced) has spent $461,000 on his campaign so far. Cardoza, who defeated Condit in last month’s primary election, raised nearly $503,000 from July 1 through March 31, almost double the $252,000 contributed to Monteith.
Monteith (R-Modesto) ended the filing period with almost $107,000.
