Hoping to defeat the man who unseated his father eight years ago, Andrew Cuomo formally kicked off his campaign for governor.

Accompanied by his mother, wife and three daughters, the former federal housing secretary lashed into a litany of failings by Republican Gov. George Pataki.

“All you hear from George Pataki are excuses, and he blames people in the past,” Cuomo, 44, said outside the courthouse in Mineola, on Long Island. “He has to blame people in the past because he can’t defend the present and he has no vision for the future.”

Following the announcement, Cuomo, the eldest son of former Gov. Mario M. Cuomo, was to head to campaign events in Brooklyn and Albany.
