Killer Put to Death in 9th Execution of Year

A man who killed a woman while stealing her boyfriend’s gun collection was executed by injection in Huntsville.
Gerald Casey, 47, was the ninth person put to death this year in Texas, which leads the nation in executions.
Casey was condemned for the July 10, 1989, murder of Sonya Howell, 29, at the home she shared with Daryl Pennington in New Caney, northeast of Houston.
Casey made no final statement before receiving the lethal injection.
