A wildfire that has destroyed dozens of homes while burning nearly 62,000 acres in eastern San Diego County was expected to be fully contained by this evening, officials said Saturday.

The fire began July 29 near Julian, about 40 miles northeast of San Diego, when a National Guard helicopter looking for marijuana plants clipped a power line.

At least 34 people have suffered minor injuries from the blaze that officials said had claimed 36 homes, 116 outbuildings and 163 vehicles.
