The President Muddies the Clean Water Act

Share

Re “Bush Plan Would Give States Leeway on Clean Water,” Aug. 8: Trusting states to clean up water pollution? Sounds like a nice idea, but pay close attention to the fine print. Under the Bush administration’s plan, states can claim that they have inadequate pollution data and remove a polluted waterway from the cleanup list. Great for the corporations that paid Bush’s way into office, not so great for the public’s health when it is eating mercury-ridden fish and drinking arsenic in the water.

President Bush claims he cares about the safety of the people, but he will roll back the Clean Water Act, forcing Americans to drink toxic water. It’s time to stand up, America, and put an end to this hypocrisy.
