New Door Opens on Thursdays

Share

So my favorite doorman Steven Harlow just teamed up with promoter John Abrams to host a new Thursday night shindig at Mark’s, a La Cienega Boulevard restaurant up the street from Koi. Harlow, who works such hot spots such as the Viper Room and the Hollywood Canteen, says DJ Scott Oster spins succulent rare grooves all night. Groovy.... Divas were in the house at Les Deux Cafe in Hollywood on Friday for a party celebrating singers Debbie Harry and Siouxsie Sioux. Among the revelers were Nina Hagen, Cherie Curry, Macy Gray and Patricia Arquette.... Speaking of divas, don’t miss soul singer Chaka Khan at the Sunset Junction street fair in Silver Lake on Aug. 25 at 8 p.m.

Speaking of Silver Lake, we popped into the tantalizing new restaurant-club Tantra and were treated to quite possibly the best Indian food this side of the Taj Mahal. With its nightly DJs and warm hosts--the father-and-son team of Navraj and R.J. Singh--Tantra looks like a winner.... Hot ticket tonight is at the Troubadour, as the almighty Youth Brigade takes the WeHo nightclub’s stage by storm. Two decades, five albums, three brothers (Shawn, Adam and Mark Stern) and still raging after all these years. And the Stern-owned BYO Records label recently signed the sought-after San Francisco punk band One Man Army and is releasing its album Oct. 15.

Rapper WC’s video shoot on Monday at the L.A. Coliseum for his new single, “The Streets,” drew appearances from Ice Cube, Nate Dogg, DJ Pooh and Snoop Dogg, who recently gave up smoking ganja, his manager reports.... Bumped into NOFX drummer Erik Sanden’s wife Sarah in line at the “Dogtown & Z-Boys” DVD signing at Tower Records in Sh’Oaks last Thursday. We were stocking up on Christmas gifts by getting the autographs of such skate heroes as Tony Alva, Bob Biniak and Paul Constantineau, who was using his Sharpie to design a new skateboard out of the wood signing table. Once a punk, always a punk.
