* GlaxoSmithKline has asked a U.S. trade agency to block the Swiss firm Novartis from importing to the U.S. a generic version of Glaxo’s antibiotic Augmentin, saying Novartis subsidiaries are using a stolen production process.

* Hot Topic Inc., a mall-based retailer of clothing for teens, said second-quarter profit rose 1.5% to $4.34 million, or 13 cents a share. Sales climbed 29% to $92.5 million, but sales at stores open at least a year gained just 0.6%. Earnings matched the company’s forecast, which was reduced last month from 15 cents a share.

* Longs Drug Stores Corp. reported a 3% decline in second-quarter net income to $10.9 million, or 29 cents a share, as higher expenses and promotions offset higher sales from stores open at least a year. The results met analysts’ average estimate. Sales at the Walnut Creek, Calif.-based retailer rose 5.7% to $1.1 billion, and same-store sales were up 3.3%.

* Fender Musical Instruments Corp. reached a deal to take over the Gretsch guitar brand starting Jan. 1. Financial terms weren’t disclosed. Fender is based in Scottsdale, Ariz., but maintains its manufacturing facilities and customizing shop in Corona.
