* Director of the comedies “House Party” and “Boomerang.” His new film, “Serving Sara,” opens Friday.

Starting Point: I train at Billy Blanks several times a week, including some Saturdays. The great thing about that workout is that everything else you do that day seems easy in comparison.

Most Important Meal: On the weekend my fiancee and I either hit Il Fornaio or Mel’s for breakfast. Sometimes it’s heart attack be damned, and we make a Roscoe’s run. I know they say that chicken and waffles is supposed to be a Southern dish, but I’m from East St. Louis, Ill., which is “up South,” but I never heard of it till I moved to the big city. Anyway, it is so good they ought to have cots so you can pass out right after your meal.

Costco Fixation: I don’t like to go grocery shopping, but I have a fascination with Costco. I can’t help going down every aisle. How can you not love a place where you can buy raw meat, DVDs and car covers in the same place?

The Next New Thing: I keep up with the cutting edge of Asian pop culture through Giant Robot magazine, so I was really happy when they opened a retail shop on Sawtelle. Great T-shirts, videos, coffee-table books and knickknacks beyond description. I usually hit Golden Apple on Wednesday, when the new comic books arrive, but if I’m too busy I’ll cruise by on the weekend. They’ve got a friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Mo’ Better Viewing: My girl doesn’t eat chicken or beef, so I usually don’t get to go to Mo’ Betta Meaty Meat Burgers unless my brother Warrington is in town. They have a turkey burger that is better than any hamburger anywhere. While I’m this far east, I’ll hit the movies at either of my favorite theaters. The ArcLight shows Hollywood blockbusters and art films, so I can see either in a beautiful facility with great seats. As a filmmaker the audience’s reaction is as important as the movie to me, so I also like to go to the Magic Johnson Theatre and see how non-industry types respond.

What to Hear Here: I love live music, and my broad taste leads me to all kinds of venues: the Hollywood Bowl to see Kathleen Battle, the Conga Room to see Hugh Masakela, House of Blues for Bootsy Collins, the Greek Theatre for Jill Scott, Catalina’s for Marcus Miller, the Kodak Theatre for Prince, the California Plaza downtown to see the Dakah Hip Hop Orchestra.
