From Times Staff Reports

Authorities said Friday that the number of dogs and cats found dead or that had to be euthanized after being kept at a filthy shelter has risen to 42.

Nineteen dogs and three cats had to be euthanized, said Kaye Michelson of the county’s Department of Animal Care and Control. However, the remains of 23 dead dogs were also found at Second Time Around for Magnificent Pets in the 2900 block of Durfee Avenue, she said.

About 150 remaining animals, kept at the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter, will be put up for adoption next week.
