A man convicted of murdering three Anaheim hospital workers in a 1999 rampage hours after his mother died at a nearby medical facility has asked a jury to give him the death penalty.

“I dare you. I dare all of you to send me to death,” Dung Trinh told a jury this week during the penalty phase of his trial. “I deserve it. I not only deserve it, I need it.”

Trinh, 46, of Anaheim, was convicted Aug. 19 of three counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance allegation of multiple murder. The special-circumstance allegation makes Trinh eligible for execution.
