George Hall, 85; Work of Character Actor Spanned 7 Decades
George Hall, 85, a character actor on stage, television and film last seen in this year’s Broadway revival of “The Boys From Syracuse,” died of a stroke Oct. 21 in Hawthorne, N.Y.
Born in Toronto, Hall studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse School and began his career in vaudeville. His Broadway debut came in 1946 in the play “Call Me Mister.”
He went on to appear in more than 20 Broadway productions. Among them were “Lend an Ear” and “Touch and Go,” and especially successful presentations of “Bent” and “Noises Off.”
Hall was best remembered on television as the very elderly Indiana Jones in George Lucas’ “The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles” (1992). He also played Tom Eldridge in “Remember WENN,” a five-year cable series.
