King Visits Fishermen at Beach Fouled by Oil

From Times Wire Reports

King Juan Carlos I of Spain visited fishermen whose livelihoods are threatened by oil from a tanker that sank last month off the nation’s northwest coast.

Arriving by helicopter, the king met with residents and the local fishermen’s association. He cast an occasional glance at the soles of his shoes as he walked in the muck of an oil-stained beach.

“We know that the king can only bring us his solidarity, not a solution,” said Javier Sar, head of the fishermen’s association. But even that helps, he said.
