From Times Staff and Wire Reports

School police arrested a Jordan High School teacher Wednesday morning after he staged a brief sit-in at the school’s gate over safety concerns stemming from an accident Monday at a recycling center across the street.

Teacher Edward Reyes, 27, was taken into custody after he refused to leave the gate, where about 20 students had joined him, some holding signs.

On Monday, one of more than 200 Navy shells at the recycling center exploded and sent a chunk of metal onto the campus. The shells had been certified as inert.
