Student Jailed Over Radio Files Lawsuit
An Egyptian student jailed more than a month on the suspicion he had an aviation radio in his hotel room after last year’s terrorist attacks sued Hilton Hotels Corp. and an FBI agent, saying they caused his false arrest.
Abdallah Higazy asks for $20 million in the lawsuit, filed in Manhattan federal court. He also names as defendants the hotel where he was staying and two security guards.
Higazy, 31, was released Jan. 16, after another hotel guest, a pilot, came forward and claimed the radio. A criminal complaint against him was dismissed.
